Engine No. 822 2-6-0

Engine No. 822 2-6-0. A mixed traffic engine of the 2-6-0 or "Mogul" type. This engine is practically identical and interchangeable with the preceding engines of this class in nearly all details, except that there are three cylinders in place of two. Various modern improvements are incorporated in the design. Built at Ashford, and hauls heavy fast goods and passenger trains between Reading, Ashford, Ramsgate, and London (Cannon Street). The weight of engine and tender in working order is 102 tons. Southern Railway, South Eastern & Chatham Sections.


Engine No. 902 Highland Chief 4-4-2

Engine No. 902, "Highland Chief" 4-4-2. One of the well known 4-4-2 or "Atlantic" type used for hauling the heavy Scotch expresses over the severe gradients between Carlisle, Edinburgh, Perth and Aberdeen. They have two outside cylinders, superheater, Belpaire firebox, a very large boiler, and were built at Glasgow. Expresses run from King's Cross (London) to Aberdeen via the East Coast route hauled by engines of this type, similar engines being used over the Great Northern and North Eastern Sections. The total weight of engine and tender in working order is 119 3/4 tons. L.&N.E. Railway, North British Section.


Engine No. 955 4-6-0

Engine No. 955 4-6-0. The latest type of 4-6-0 or "ten-wheeler" express passenger engine. Has three simple cylinders, all driving the leading coupled axle. Fitted with all the latest appliances, mechanical lubricators, superheater,"pop" safety valves, speed indicator. A new design of cab with sliding side windows has been provided and also a large eight-wheeled tender. Used for hauling heavy fast express trains between Aarhus, Randers and Sasselager. Weight of engine and tender iD working order 122 1/2 tons. Danish State Railways.
