Engine No. 545 4-6-4
Tank. A tank engine of the
4-6-4 or "Baltic" type
wheel formation, and
although this type has been used in England before, it is
the first time
it has appeared in Scotland. Having six coupled wheels, two
outside
cylinders, a large boiler and all modern improvements, it
is a very
powerful machine and hauls the heavy and fast passenger trains
between
Glasgow (St. Enoch), Ayr, Troon, Ardrossan, and Fairlie.
Built at
Glasgow, and weighs in working order 99 tons. L.M.&S.

Engine No. 6101 4-6-2.
A very powerful and heavy express passenger
locomotive of the 4-6-2 or "Pacific" type. Has
four simple cylinders, two inside the frames and two
outside, and is also fitted with a superheater. Used for
hauling express
trains to and from the Riviera between Paris and Marseilles.
Built in
France, the total weight of the engine and tender in working
order is
155 tons. Paris, Lyons, Mediterranean Railway.

Engine No. 6401 2-6-2.
A very powerful four cylinder compound locomotive of the
2-6-2 or
"Prairie" type. The two high-pressure cylinders
are placed on the left
hand side, and the two low-pressure on the right. A unique
arrangement
is the leading wheels and the first pair of coupled wheels
form a bogie.
The boiler is fitted with a superheater. Built at Milan,
the total
weight of the engine in working order is about 70 tons. Italian
State Railways.
