Engine No. 231 4-6-0. A
powerful engine of the 4-6-0 or ten-wheel type. Has two
simple
cylinders placed outside the frames, and is fitted with a
Belpaire
firebox. Used for hauling heavy express passenger trains
weighing
approximately 400 tons between Bombay, Delhi and the Punjab.
A large cab
is provided affording the driver and fireman protection from
the
weather. The tender runs on two bogies and has large coal
and water
carrying capacities. Built in England, the total weight of
engine and
tender in working order is 120 tons. Great Indian
Peninsula.

Engine No. 2400 4-6-2. The
first of a series of 4-6-2 or "Pacific" type
express passenger
locomotives and an innovation for the North Eastern. Built
at
Darlington, this engine has three simple cylinders, a superheater
and
mechanical lubricators, and is of large size and proportions.
Used for
working fast and heavy passenger trains on the East Coast
route between
York, Newcastlaand Edinburgh. The total weight of engine
and tender in
working order is 148 tons. L.&N.E. Railway North
Eastern Section.

Engine No. 2901 4-6-2. A very powerful locomotive of the 4-6-2
or "Pacific" type,
and is a four
cylinder compound, the two high-pressure cylinders being
placed between
the frames, and the two low-pressure outside. Has a large
wide firebox,
and can be worked either as a simple or compound at will.
Used for
working heavy express passenger trains between Paris, Brest,
and
Cherbourg. Built at Rouen, the total weight of the engine
and tender in
working order is 148 tons.
