Engine No. 191 4-6-0. One
of a series of powerful engines of the 4-6-0 or ten-wheel
type built
at Glasgow, and although not the first of the 4-6-0 variety
to be used
on the Caledonian Railway, they are the first of this type
on this line
to have the cylinders placed outside. These engines are intended
for
mixed traffic working over the Callander and Oban line, which
has
several long and steep grades and many severe curves. The
engine and
tender in working order weigh 100 1/2 tons. L.M.&S.

Locomotive 2300, 4-6-2
Type. The
first of the latest series of Pacific type heavy passenger
engines
designed by the Railway Company, and built at their Angus
Shops in
Montreal. These locomotives haul the Trans-Canada Limited,
and other
fast trains, and are the most powerful of their type in service
in
Canada. The maximuin tractive effort is 42,600 lbs., and
the total
weight of the engine and tender in working order is 490,000
lbs. These
are two-cylinder simple locomotives, using a high degree
of superheat
with improved Walschaert Valve Gear. Canadian Pacific

Engine No. 2290 0-10-0. This 0-10-0 tender, or Decapod type locomotive built at Derby
was used
for banking trains up the celebrated "Lickey Incline",
one of the
longest and steepest inclines in England, situated on the
main line
between Birmingham and Gloucester. The chief features are
four simple
cylinders in connection with ten coupled wheels, and is unique
in being
the first of this type to be built in England. The total
weight of
engine and tender in working order is 105 1/4 tons.
