Engine No. 1470 4-6-2

Engine No. 1470 4-6-2. One of a series of powerful express passenger engines of the 4-6-2 or "Pacific" type built at Doncaster. Although not the first of this type to be used in England, they are a novelty so far as the G. N. R. is concerned. These engines have three simple cylinders, and are fitted with superheaters and taper boilers with wide fireboxes. They are used principally for hauling the passenger trains forming the East Coast Scotch expresses between King's Cross (London), Doncaster and York. The total weight of engine and tender in working order is 148 3/4 tons. L.&N.E. Railway Great North Section.


Engine No. 1522 4-6-0

Engine No. 1522 4-6-0. This locomotive is of the 4-6-0 type, has four simple cylinders - two inside the frames and two outside - and was built at Horwich. It has a large boiler, superheater and Belpaire firebox. The valve gear is of the Walschaert's type and is arranged outside the frames. Engines of this type haul the heaviest and fastest expresses between Manchester, Blackpool, Crewe, and Carlisle. The total weight of the engine and tender in working order is 111 1/4 tons. L.M.&S. Railway Lancashire & Yorkshire Section.


Engine No. 1534 4-6-0

Engine No. 1534 4-6-0. One of the standard 4-6-0 or ten-wheel type of expiess passenger locomotives as used on the Great Eastern Section. Built at Stratford, these engines have two simple cylinders, superheater, &c. A large number are in service and work the principal express trains between Liverpool Street (London), Cambridge, Ipswich, Yarmouth, and various other seaside resorts served by this Company. The total weight of engine and tender in working order is 101 tons. L.&N.E. Railway Great Eastern Section.
