Engine No. 106__4-4-4
Tank.
A powerful tank locomotive of the somewhat unusual 4-4-4
wheel arrangement, and used for working heavy fast suburban
and express trains between Neasden, Harrow, and Aylesbury,
a service demanding good accelerative powers and flexibility,
owing to the close proximity of the stations and the severe
curves traversed en route. Built at Stoke, all the latest
and most modern appliances are fitted to all the engines
of this class. The weight in working order is 77 tons. Metropolitan
Railway.

Engine No. 107__0-10-0
Tank. Combined Rack and Rail Locomotive.
One of a series of very interesting
and unusual type of combined rack and rail locomotive.
Used for hauling coal trains from the Oinbilieu coal mines
on the Padang-Pandjang branch of the Sumatra State Railways,
to port of Padang, this branch abounding in heavy curves.
This engine is fitted with a superheater, hot feed apparatus
and various other modern appliances. Built at Winterthur,
Switzerland, the engine in working order weighs 51 metric
tons. Dutch Indies Railways.

Engine No. 111 The Great
Bear 4-6-2. The
first 4-6-2 or "Pacific" type express passenger
locomotive to make its appearance in England. Has four simple
cylinders, a very large boiler, and is now fitted with the
G.W.R. standard appliances. This is the only engine on the
G.W.R. with an eight-wheeled tender. "The Great Bear" has
been working fast express passenger trains between Paddington
(London) and Bristol. Built at Swindon, the total weight
of engine and tender in working order is 143 tons. Great
Western Railway.
