Engine No. 23__0-6-0 Four-cylinder Tank

Engine No. 23__0-6-0 Four-cylinder Tank. A very interesting locomotive and unique in being the first instance of a British tank engine to have four cylinders. In the design all the modern appliances have been included, and the engine is well adapted to hauling heavy trains having frequent stops, and requiring rapid acceleration. A novel feature is the disposition of the inside and outside cranks. This engine has been working local trains around Stoke district. Built at Stoke, the weight in working order is 56 3/4 tons. L.M.&S. Railway North Staffordshire Section.
