2-6-0-0-6-2 Mallet Compound
Locomotive.
A very heavy and powerful
compound locomotive of the
articulated Mallet type, and
used for hauling heavy coal
trains. Has four cylinders, and
is fitted with all the latest
appliances, superheater, &c. An
electric headlight is provided,
and the engine can he worked
simple or compound at will. Constructed for the 3' 6" gauge,
and built in Scotland, the total
weight of the engine and tender
in working order is 179 3/4 tons. South African Railways.

4-8-0 Three-cylinder
Engine. An
engine of unusual interest,
built at Sheffield for working
over the Spanish Railways,
which have long and steep
gradients and many severe
curves. Owing to lightness of
track in several places, axle
loads had to be kept down to
a minimum. This engine has
three cylinders, several English
modern appliances, and works
on the 5' 6" gauge. This locomotive is exceedingly powerful,
and weighs with tender in working order 136 1/2 tons. Northern

6000 Series 4-8-2 Type
Locomotives. The
6000 series locomotives
in service on the Canadian
National Railways are the
largest passenger locomotives
in the British Umpire, and are
operated in heavy fast passenger service. The cylinders are
26" diameter by 30" stroke, and
the boiler pressure is 210 lbs.
per square inch. The driving
wheels are 73" diameter. The
total weight of engine and
tender in working order is
577,000 lbs. The tender has a
capacity of 17 tons of coal and
10,000 gallons of water. The
total length overall is 90' 4". Canadian National Railways.
