Las Vegas Vacation Diary
Day Thirteen: Fly to Vegas, Thunder and Lightening!
Pictures: Flash Flood from monorial entrance, from above out of side door and large Drains.
Rain is forecast for the region. Our friends took us out to the airport. Our plane delayed one hour due to weather. Thunder and lightening! Arrived late at the Imperial Palace and had to take a smoking room to get two beds. They assured us we could change to a non-smoking room in the morning if we wished. It's OK though, since the temperature has dropped and we don't need to use the smoke filled heating or air-conditioning. |

It rained all night and a flash flood was flowing through the parking lot of the hotel in the morning. Seems the owner was a construction specialist and bought the land cheaply as it is the flood plain for the Strip. He built the hotel up on stilts and when it rains a river runs under it.

There was an air raid siren during the night that warned anyone in the vicinity of the hotel to get out of the drainage area. Phoenix got lots of rain, too. So I guess our friends are watching the water run down their street. |
CSI featured a couple of episodes where local flash flood featured
in the plot. There is a huge drainage system constructed under Las Vegas
that channels the water out to Lake Mead (Hoover Dam).
