Not since Spike locked lips with Buffy the Vampire Killer has there been such a teenage commotion over a cinematic kiss. The girls screaming in the audience were more entertaining than what was happening up on the screen. One twelve-year-old voice called out loudly from two rows behind me, "Quiet!! You're interfering with my education!" Perfect timing, I had to laugh! Obviously Twilight is a very precisely targeted movie, and I must be a teenager at heart because I really did enjoy it. Twilight gives us the well-worn but worthy angst of first love - in this case, between a high school girl, Bella Swan, and a high school vampire, Edward Cullen, wrapped in the well-known (and less well-known) lore of vampires. Of course we all know that vampires hunt in the deep woods of Washington state, but did you know that they also play baseball (and what a team!)?
Twilight is nicely acted by Kristen Stewart (Bella), Robert Pattinson(Edward), and the rest the actors, and it's an exciting film for teens (and some of us much older teens). I understand that the Twilight series of award-winning books by Stephenie Meyer is considerably better than the movie, so see the movie AND buy the books!
