Thor (2D) is an impressive filmic rendition of Marvel Comics' version of the story of Thor, son of Odin, the King of the pantheon of Norse gods and goddesses. A large part of the story occurs in Asgard, home of the gods. It is here that I like the film the best. Asgard and the surrounding "realms" are beautifully realized by director, Kenneth Branaugh. The attention to detail pays off by
bringing us thoroughly into this world of imagined grandeur and the icy danger of Jotunheim, home of the Frost Giants.
The cast is well chosen and carry their roles will great skill. The young-dog arrogance of Thor is contrasted well to the cerebral and crafty Loki, his half-brother. Readers of Marvel's Thor comic magazine will know that there are many layers to the Thor, Loki, and Odin story, so I hope that future films will find their way back to Asgard's literary riches.
I did not see this film in 3D on purpose. The only benefit of 3D in its current state is the extra cost it adds to the price of a ticket (for the pockets of producers and distributors). It does nothing for the audience, except annoy us. Finding Thor in 2D will be very difficult. If you can't, then I recommend waiting for the DVD.
