Iron Man. Well, I guess I'm an expert - I now have 3 action figures [ NOT toys! :-) ], and fond memories going all the way back to Iron Man's first issue, which I owned at one time. (Yes, I'm older than agate.) I just re-read Marvel Comics' Tales of Suspense #39, and was a bit surprised at how closely the movie followed the origin story. Of course Vietnam was the hotspot
at that time.
Robert Downey Jr. in the role of the morally flawed munitions and arms manufacturer, Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, is a case of perfect casting. The attention to detail in depicting his life and motivation is what makes Iron Man rise almost to the top of the heap in the Super Hero genre (Spiderman 2 is still my favorite).
For fans of the magazine, this is one of the most rewarding and skillful adaptations ever made of a comic book character. The director (Jon Favreau), cast, and crew have made a film to be proud of. Plus ... gotta love that suit!
BTW, stay till the end of the credits for an important scene which bodes well for the future of the franchise. Amazingly, I was the only one in the theater who did stay, I'm so cool !
