When I bought my ticket I asked for "Inglorious Bastards". It's actually "Basterds" with an "e". There I was cussing for no good reason.:-)
Inglorious Basterds is a comic-book-cartoon-of-a-movie that is being taken too seriously by some critics. Comments about cultural relevance, mob-hate transference, and stuff like that seems weird to me. I guess I'd be looking for more levels too if I was being paid for these reviews (must speak to management about that).
The film is snappy, exciting, at times funny, and gross (hey- Tarantino does gross, so you know that going in). The story would fold out into a comic graphic novel with no problems at all. And it would make a good one too. As a movie, it's in-your-face violence is a bit rough on my sensitive nature, but the dialogue is well written; particularly some of the tense conversations that take place while people are sitting around tables in several long scenes.
So, if you can stomach over-the-top extreme gross violence (like scalping dead Nazis), you might find other parts of the movie rewarding enough to be glad that you went. The ending is a blast.
