Inception was a let down, given the 87% approval rating at Rotten Tomaotes.
After the plot got down to the dream within a dream, within a dream, my interest was highly sedated. The plot seemed like a high school class exercise in "write a complex movie script". But it wasn't so complex, as it was unoriginal. I almost expected this to turn into "the universe is an electron in an atom, in a molecule, in a tear drop, from a gigantic Homer Simpson" cliche.
This movie owes a lot to concepts beautifully done in Dark City and The Matrix. I liked some of the discussions about dreams and the nature of reality, but they took all of 5 minutes. Then back to the been-there-done-that action.
OK, so it was far from perfect in my opinion, but I won't tell you to not see it. Obviously, a majority of people thought it was the cat's pajamas. My moment-of-truth reality question is will I buy it on DVD - answer: no.
