Firstly, I
like the Ghost Rider comic
character, and I have dozens of issues that made
me anticipate this film with some glee. So, I really
wish I could recommend this transition to the big
screen. However, there is something of the editor's
knife about this movie. The acting is ordinary and
the script is just OK. Telling the "back
story" of a character can be very tricky, and
a killer (in the bad sense), as it was for The Incredible
Hulk, and The Fantastic
Four. Still, this is a better
movie than either of those.
For the entire back story of
Ghost Rider, aka Johnny Blaze, consult
Wikipedia.
The
female lead (Eva Mendez) did not seem to add much;
however, she didn't have much to work with. The
special effects were at the top end, but that's to
be expected. Some of the low "voice of god" narrative
and line delivery was a little corny (and hard
to understand\hear), but the musical score was good,
Peter Fonda was effective as Mephistopheles, and
Nicolas Cage was adequate as the Ghost Rider. I just
wanted something from Ghost Rider to lift me out
of my "been
there, seen that" mood. Unfortunately, for
me, the most exciting part of the movie was the
preview of Spiderman 3.
I will watch this movie again,
and perhaps my opinion will change. It's been known
to happen.
