I can't
recommend Catwoman,
which is a pity, because Halle Barry nails the
character in physicality and attitude with stupendous
style. However, when Halle is not Catwoman,
the rest of the movie collapses under the weight
of a
very poor
script. Everything is cardboard thin, including
Halle's portrayal of Catwoman's alter-ego, Patience,
the poor abused advertizing artist. It also doesn't
help to have plot holes a mile wide.
Far too much time is
spent establishing Patience as a "weak sister".
And Sharon Stone is wasted as the cliche personification
of the soulless greedy corporation. She reminds me
of
Faye
Dunaway in Supergirl.
Very bad role choice here.
Benjamin Bratt is reasonably
OK as the potential boyfriend cop, but competent acting
can't lift this
movie out of script hell.
The opening musical
score by composer Graeme Revell is very good. If only
they had put some more work into the script. They
DO have script doctors in Hollywood. 90% of a movie IS
the script! The script!! |
