Aeon
Flux - finally
bought the DVD, on sale.
When I first saw the
previews, and recalled the series which I watched
on MTV way back when, I thought - "Great! Should
be a winner." Then I read so many bad reviews of
the movie that I didn't go see it at the theater.
Dumb, dumb, and dumb
- me, not the movie! I
missed my chance to see it on the big screen.
Visually
this film is striking, and it's different.
Gone is the "burning trashcan" future full of rain
and darkness. Here is a brilliant world with deadly
gardens and a sinister under-current, felt but not
understood by the entire population. 400
years after 99% of the world is wiped out by a virus,
there is a worm in the apple in the perfect city
of Bregna, constructed by the survivors.
Aeon Flux (Charlize
Theron) is a top assassin in a group of rebels determined
to bring down the long-held rule of the Goodchild
family. However, Aeon's clarity of vision is clouded
by unexpected feelings for her target, Trevor Goodchild
(Marton
Csokas), and memories that she should not have.
This is a film that gives you something to think
about. Like the animated series, it is really more
about the questions than the answers. It's not a
great film, but it's way better than the reviews
will have you believe.
I must remember "never
trust reviews of science fictions films." You just
have to make up your own mind.
