Invadazoid Reviews for PC Game:

Invadazoid Review - “Do you remember the old commercial in which one person carrying an open jar of peanut butter and another eating a chocolate bar bump into each other and mix snacks? An ad along the same vein for Invadazoid would show one kid playing Space Invaders on his handheld and another engrossed in Breakout; after they collide and the smoke clears, the first would cry, "Hey! You got Breakout in my Space Invaders!" The other would reply, "Well, you got Space Invaders in my Breakout!" Then they'd realize they'd hit upon something refreshing and fun. Invadazoid comes with four modes.

When you load Invadazoid for the first time, three of them are available: Invasion, Survival and Classic. To beat Invasion mode, you must survive its eight stages. Each stage is set in a different location around the world and contains several individual levels. You can start a new game at the beginning of any stage you've reached.

Ivadazoid is retro for sure--I can picture the Invadazoid artist drawing inspiration from a stack of cheesy alien invasion movies or dog-eared sci-fi comics from the Fifties.

Invadazoid offers just one repetitive techno track for the gameplay. The menu has its own tune, but you won't hear it for long. Truth be told, the best aspect of the music is the option to turn it off.

Finally, don't let my rant about the extreme difficulty of the latter levels discourage you from trying Invadazoid. Like mixing chocolate and peanut butter, the fusion of Space Invaders and Breakout is sweet, and when I wasn't wanting to smash my monitor with a giant hammer, I was having fun. Having beaten Invasion mode, I spend most of my time in the game trying to top my high score in Survival mode, which is utterly addictive.- 007minus1

Invadazoid Review - “The aliens are very funny, but Invadazoid is not easy because they come very fast and kill your ship. I like the music and the graphics. Give Invadazoid a try, it's a blast!.” - Atomic Man

Invadazoid Review - "Invadazoid touches a sentimental nerve, with a come back of Space Invaders in 3D. The movement patterns, routines, and sound effects in 'classic mode' are right on the target. The ending tune is classic 'midi'. Music for the game levels had more of a disco tone giving a feel of the 'Oldies'. In 'Invasion' and 'Survival' modes, the weapons are more like the style we know & love today. Using power ups, magnetic shields, and other break out tools, Invadazoid catches you by surprise using the classic 'Space Invader' weapon for missiles along side the new shooters. The difference between Survival and Invasion game play is that new critters replace the ones you've destroyed from the top row. When playing outside of the classic mode, shots no longer just shoot upwards into space. The whole warfield is framed by the screen and your shots - - dare I say it - - ricochet off the walls.

The Invadazoid package is slick clean and direct. Just enough to breath life into a classic. Fantastic for short breaks -- about a palm full of quarters worth at a time. People will love this theme, even if they never really loved the original game when they had a chance to play it." - Delightful Deb

Invadazoid Review - "Breakout meets Galaga..or Space Invaders...or...you get the idea. The merging of these two gameplay styles is Invadazoid's claim to fame. It does this pretty well, and it is fun to use your ball to smash the invaders to bits in addition to occassionally shooting at them. The art could be improved a bit, but the gameplay is fun. You fight bosses, and the different stages of alien fighting, breakout-style, should be varied enough to keep your interest and then some in Invadazoid." - Bosco

Invadazoid Review - “Invadazoid is certainly one of the most original breakout-style games I've played, especially since I've never actually seen anyone mix in the "Space Invader" motif.

The graphics are great, especially for a quickly downloadable game, and the controls are responsive. I tried Invadazoid late at night, so I played without sound, but I'd imagine that's largely inoffensive at worst.

This game is certainly a quality title, assuming that the innovations in the game appeal to you. Invadazoid is definitely something I'd encourage anyone to try the demo before buying. Personally, while I found the game initially amusing, the game is over if the invaders land. So in addition to having to catch the ball, you also have to make sure to stop the lowest-levels of aliens before they touch down. While the earlier levels were easy enough, I can see that later levels might prove more frustrating than actually fun.

The addition of boss battles adds another Invadazoid element, and one that really is pretty cool, as you don't have to worry about the landing issue. (They just hover.) The additional "classic mode" styled purely after Space Invaders feels tacked on, and rather unenjoyable. It did more to remind me how games have evolved, rather than make me nostalgic for a classic game.

If you enjoyed the demo, I'd say Invadazoid is a definite buy, but make sure you realize what you're getting into.- Jessie James
